I am staying in the airconditioning and photographing found things on my large lightbox. I love the backlighting effect of xraying the subject and where there is too much density I also use my Nikon flash with Gary Fong Diffuser to supply some front illumination as well.
I have posted six images to my Pbase gallery. Stop by if you have a minute and a desire.
At times like this I like to reflect back on kinder times when Mother Nature expresses her 'sense of humor' without as much outrage. Sometimes she prefers a tickle instead of bludgeoning us for our crimes against her sacred self.
I wonder if her beloved blossoms perhaps laugh a little at the joke.
I found myself a foster parent again this summer. July is baby bat time and a few found their way to me this year. I love to share the nursery with anyone wanting to look. My hope is for you to see these sweet little creatures through my eyes. They fall in love with their foster parent easily and purr like cats are impossibly small and dependent. I believe I may be getting a little to old for feedings through the night, but always game and groggy, I get through it. These two little guys had just come in and they are getting warmed up in their comfy clean roost before we start the first feeding. I use a jewelers magnifier to find their little mouths. They need to be stimulated to pee and poop after the feeding just to make certain their plumbing is working, and weigh less than a packet of sugar with little eyes still closed. Their current blindness means they don't know how impossibly large I am but know I am loud and smell bad and, more importantly, I have the PUPPY MILK FORMULA!
It takes patience to get them to understand the new feeding process. Mamma's nurturing breast is gone but they will soon get accustomed to the pupy milk I present. They like it hot...over 100 degrees...and if it isn't the temperature they like they won't take it.
This little one is dehydrated and hungry...his belly is empty and I am getting ready to remedy that situation. In the last image on the right you find him done nursing and full of formula. Even from the back you can see the bulge the formula makes on his left side. I have to watch carefully how much he is taking in as overfeeding a bat pup will result in death.
He ate, he peed, and now it is time to go hang out and sleep in his warm roost I have prepared.
Ok...I have been sick. My abiity to focus is practically nil. I have obsessed for weeks about my Lash LaRue movie and it is finally here today. Yesterday I found a small screwdriver to take my Laptop apart. I didn't need any tools to take the hard drive out. It is going to become an 80GB external hardrive to my PC.
The fabric in the background became curtains for Mom's bedroom to replace the horrible venetian blinds. It only took me three years to get it done. Oh well.
The Philadelphia Flower Show is the largest indoor flower show in the world. I didn't drag the big camera and the tripod this year. And my Gary Fong came the day after so I just did a lot of point and shoot and love the things I found.
Paradise.......... I bet it took me longer to isolate this arrangement from the background than it did the artist to create it in the first place.
This has a definite Mork and Mindy thing about it. These arrangements were all tucked into their own little alcoves...I didn't have to bend down or anything. They were a pleasure. I was really really lazy this year!
For too long now....... I have been cruising in the slip stream and lost track of a pulsing world beneath me. A package left on my porch turned out to be my long awaited Gary Fong Lightsphere II that has tamed my Nikon flash unit for me. Can you guess who my first victims were. They are not used to me shooting in anything but ambient light and only the Parrot Katie, who loves all things noisy and fun, found the flash to be a god thing. My little Petra (actually not so little anymore-her new nickname is "Wide Load") up in the left corner hid her face after falling for this shot. And Queen Boudicca seems to be going "Wha...?". I love what the defuser now allows me capture and no one in the house is safe.
